Children will love helping you make hand rolls that they can enjoy as a meal or a snack in their lunchbox! You can mix and match what you put into a rice hand roll, - smoked salmon, tuna, carrots, cucumber….

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sushi rice
  • 1.5 cups of water
  • 3 tbsp sushi seasoning
  • 1 half avocado, sliced
  • 1 chicken breast, sliced into strips approximately 1cm thick
  • 4 nori sheets
  • Optional: Japanese Mayonnaise (be wary of mayonnaises which contain msg or flavour enhances)

 

Method

  1. Cook 1 cup of rice in 1.5 cups of water in a rice cooker. Once cooked, mix in 3 tbsp sushi seasoning.
  2.  Lay a nori sheet onto a bamboo matt if you have one, otherwise place onto a clean flat bench.
  3. Spread a layer of rice onto the nori sheet.
  4. Optional- spread a thin layer of high quality Japanese mayonnaise.
  5. Approximately 1/3 of the way down the sheet place a strip of chicken along the length of the nori sheet.
  6. Place a slice of avocado along side the chicken strip
  7. Roll the sheet up into a roll.
